Instead of fighting for share, play a home series to compensate for revenues: Rajeev Shukla

Rajeev Shukla came up with an amicable solution regarding the on-going feud between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shukla suggested that the BCCI should look for an alternative to generate revenue rather than entwine themselves in legal matters and prohibiting the player from participating in the mega event.

The IPL chairman has held the reputation for his shrewd decisions and has lived up to it yet again by stating that the BCCI should look to plan a short home series in the currently vacant window for Champions League T20. The last edition of the tournament was played in 2014 in India. Cricket Australia, Cricket South Africa, and BCCI scrapped the tournament owing to poor viewership, lack of audience interest and unstable sponsorships.

“I felt that rather than getting into a legal tangle or stopping the players from participating in the mega event, it was best if we sort it out in an amicable manner. The ICC has already said that they are willing to pay another $100 million to the already earmarked $293 million. So, that makes it $393 million,” said Shukla.

Shukla stated that the BCCI generates a revenue of about 44 crores for an international match. Over a period five years, if BCCI decides to engage in a home series, they can still manage to compensate for the slashed revenue, given that Shashank Manohar has offered an additional sum.

“Now, there is a gap in the calendar where we earlier had the Champions League. If we use that window to play a home series, we can easily make around approximately Rs 200 crore from the broadcasters alone. BCCI gets around Rs 43 crore for an international match. So, even a 5-game ODI series is enough. Now, if we multiply it by five years, we get our Rs 1000 crore,” added Shukla according to news18.com

He further credited the idea to Jagmohan Dalmia who had the same ideology about the present fiasco. “It was a policy suggested by former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya and I just felt it was the most feasible option in the current scenario. I am glad the other members agreed to the idea.” concluded Rajiv Shukla.
