The Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand has been announced by the BCCI in Mumbai on Monday. In-form youngster Shreyas Iyer has been named in the squad after his impressive run in the domestic circuit. Apart from Iyer, another fresh face pacer Mohammed Siraj has been included in the lineup. India will play a 3-match T20I series against the Blackcaps, starting on November 1.

38-year old Ashish Nehra has been added for the final time in his career as he is set to play his farewell match in Delhi at the Ferozshah Kotla, the venue for the 1st T20I. Iyer made a case for himself after scoring 317 runs from 4 games, playing for India A against New Zealand A.

“Iyer has been prolific across formats – in first-class, one-dayers, T20 – he’s been performing consistently,” MSK Prasad, India’s chairman of selectors, said in Mumbai on Monday. “If we pick a player, we will give him a long run. The same applies for Siraj.” he added.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has also been retained after being picked in the ongoing ODI series earlier this month. Out of favor Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failed to crack the code and have been sidelined once again. The spin trio- Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvenrda Chahal and Axar Patel will look to continue their good form and cement their respective positions going into the shortest format.

India had earlier finished the T20I series against Australia on a 1-1 margin after the final game was washed out due to the poor outfield in Hyderabad. Kohli and his men will look to secure the series against a strong Kiwi side.
