Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are number 3 and number 5 bowlers in the ICC Test bowling rankings. They were the regular spinners for the side till the Champions Trophy in 2017. They were “rested” for the following series as well as it was time for wrist-spinners to take over. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuvendra Chahal are performing brilliantly for the side ever since. In the ongoing ODI series against South Africa, both of them have run through the Protea batting on a number of occasions.
The way both of them are performing, one would expect the chances for Jadeja and Ashwin returning to the side is far from near. However, Ashwin recently bowled leg-spin during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match playing for Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja fought with side-strains during his side’s match against Jharkhand. Jadeja could only manage to bowl 2 overs.
Injury didn’t stop Jadeja to take the side home with a century
Jharkhand managed to score a challenging total of 329 runs batting first after a brilliant half-century from skipper Ishan Kishan. Jadeja came to the crease when Saurashtra lost the second wicket, he hit his 2nd List A century to guide the team to victory. He remained unbeaten on 113 hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes during the run chase to take the side over the line.
Talking about the struggle during his century Jadeja told Indian Express that while playing few of the shots, the pain was unbearable. Jadeja felt that the innings was very important for his self-confidence as he helped the side win by chasing 330 while struggling with the strains.
Notably, the left-handers bowling figures aren’t impressive in the tournament as he has failed to get his name in the wickets column. Talking about his wicket-less spells, Jadeja told Indian Express that he was happy the way he has been bowling. He mentioned that he was executing his plans well with the ball and that he was satisfied the way he has bowled.
