Former Pakistan skipper and current chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Inzamam-ul-Haq has called for one captain across all formats thus indirectly indicating Misbah-ul-Haq to retire from the longest format of the game. Under Misbah, Pakistan was currently drubbed 2-0 against New Zealand followed by 3-0 annihilation at the hands of Australia. Despite Pakistan’s recent poor performances, Misbah has been Pakistan’s one and the only captain to lead his nation to the numero uno status in Test cricket after drawing the 4 match series in England 2-2.

Speaking to the reporters following his side’s dismal performance off late Inzamam said, “I haven’t given any advice to the PCB over the captaincy issue but I think the perfect man for the job is one who can lead in all three formats. Misbah is a very intelligent man and he is in the best position to take a decision about his future,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by the Dawn. Despite Inzy’s call, it remains to be seen who takes over from Misbah as the team hasn’t shown any improvement under Azhar Ali in the limited overs format either.

Inzamam backed his selection for the series in New Zealand and Australia and conceded that the best available squad was sent for the tours. Defending his decision Inzamam said, “We took several steps before sending the team to New Zealand and Australia and sent the best bunch of players. Fitness remains a problem for the team and we’re taking steps to improve it.”

The former captain concluded by saying that he was independent as a chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but he does consult the team management before picking a squad. One of the finest batsman during his playing days, Inzamam remains one of the greatest ever Pakistani cricketer to have graced the game. The big man served his nation successfully for nearly 16 years before calling it quits following the 2007 World Cup debacle in the Caribbean.
