Gujarat Lions have received a major blow in the middle of the season with Dwayne Bravo being ruled out of the remainder of the season. Bravo is not the first player to be ruled out of the season due to an injury this season. Prior to the commencement of the IPL 10, players like KL Rahul and Mitch Marsh were ruled out due to injuries as well. Bravo’s name comes as the first major overseas ruling out in the middle of the tournament.

Coming into the season, Dwayne Bravo was earlier expected to miss out on a few matches in the initial phase. However, there were chances of him returning back to frame. In some of the recent interviews, the team management had also shown positive news about Bravo and expected him to return to the playing eleven soon. Now, the West Indies ‘Champion’ all-rounder is set to miss the entire season of the league.

Dwayne Bravo came into the tournament with a hamstring injury. He had picked up the injury back in the month of December last year during his stint in the Big Bash League. He subsequently had a surgery for the injury and was recovering from the same as he walked into the tournament this year.

The Gujarat Lions always knew that they will not get his full services in the season even before the auctions took place this year. During an interaction before the IPL auctions this year, the GL owner Keshav Bansal had remarked that he is keeping his fingers crossed for Bravo’s arrival. “We are keeping our fingers crossed. Bravo may not be available for the full season. I am in constant touch with him as he is undergoing the final phase of rehab in Miami,” he had quoted back then.

Bravo did arrive but has to head back home now. A tweet from Keshav Bansal confirmed the news of Bravo’s ruling out of the tournament. He tweeted, “Going to miss this Champion! Unfortunately he has been ruled out this season due to injury! I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery!”

Bravo has been a power packed performer in the IPL and has won the Purple Cap on an occasion as well. Last year, he was the second most successful bowler for Gujarat Lions with 17 wickets to his name.
