The Kolkata Knight Riders have been on a merry roll this season. They are currently the table toppers in the points table and are a win away from the playoffs. A lot of credit goes to the KKR top order for helping them dominate the proceedings on most occasions. Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa have been the two key players in making the top order a formidable one in the tournament.

The two players have been on a rampage in the last two games. They stitched a 150 plus partnership in the match against Rising Pune Supergiant. In the previous match against the Delhi Daredevils, they put on another 108 run stand for the second wicket to help the team register their 7th win of the season. With two consecutive fifties to their names, the KKR top order looks in safe hands.

Recently, in his column for the official website of the Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir showered praises on his batting partner Robin Uthappa. The column, under the title of ‘Captain’s diary’, saw Gambhir talking about the way Robin has been excelling with the bat and the wicket-keeping gloves. Uthappa had registered 3 stumpings in the match against RPS. Gambhir hopes that the national selectors are taking notice of his consistent performances.

“Uthappa too was brilliant behind and in front of the stumps. Three stumpings and one of them being a game-changer really helped us. And while batting he displayed beautiful hitting technique. What stood for me was his ability to hit the ball straight. I hope selectors are watching,” Gautam Gambhir wrote.

He further added that he is happy with his own performance as well. Moreover, he credited Uthappa for taking the pressure off him during the matches this season.

“In the end, I was satisfied that I also played some part in the win through my batting. To tell you the truth the credit for my innings should also go to Uthappa. I could ease myself in because he was taking risks and smoking them. These are the reasons I love this game – teamwork, and selflessness,” he added further.
