The Kolkata Knight Riders hosted Delhi Daredevils in the 32nd match of the IPL at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to field first and went on to continue their winning streak while chasing for the 13th time. Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer put the Daredevils into a strong position with their steady partnership. Samson impressed one and all with his 38-ball 60, while Iyer supported him perfectly with his 34-ball 47.

With the innings well poised at 123-1, the turning point for Delhi came after the wicket of Samson. With some effective death bowling and batsmen giving their wicket away, Daredevils, who once threatened to reach a target of 200, were restricted to a total of 160. Coulter-Nile impressed yet again with his three wickets.

While chasing the total, it was the partnership of Gambhir and Uthappa again which sealed the victory for the KKR side. Uthappa hit another fierce-some knock of 59 off 33 balls while the captain remained unbeaten at 71. In the end, it was yet another handsome victory for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they won by 7 wickets and 22 balls remaining. Gambhir was elected as the man of the match for his batting performance.

The elated KKR skipper and the man of the match, Gambhir, still believes that they have a long way to go in the tournament. He commended the efforts of the bowlers who turned the game around for them and restricted the Delhi Daredevils batsmen to a paltry total of 160. Gautam Gambhir concluded by saying that the amount he receives would go to the family of CRPF jawans.

We still have a long way to go. So far most of the boxes is ticked. But this is that type of tournament that we can’t be complacent. The way bowlers got us back into the game, at one stage we thought that DD would get 180-190, it was unbelievable. It comes on better in the evening. It’s about not losing too many wickets in the first three overs. You’ve got to have faith in your bowlers. We’ve never picked players with hope that they’ll delivery, we’ve always had faith in them. Absolutely, the way he is hitting the ball, I’ve not seen many people hit it the way he’s hitting it. There’s always room for improvement. We can’t put more effort in the field. Any run you save, the less you have to score. Whatever awards I’ve earned, all money goes to CRPF jawans.

Zak believed that the total set by the batters was perfectly defendable. He stated that heir bowling hindered after the hamstring injury to him. The fielders dropped important catches which affected the result of the match. Zak further mentioned that the team is just a spark away to gain momentum into the back end of the tournament. However, he seemed unsure about his injury.

We had the platform I think. We could have defended 160 as well. Me pulling my hamstring didn’t really help. Maybe 15 runs short, but those drop catches never help. KKR put the pressure back on us. We reacted but couldn’t control the game. You are asking the wrong person, I am not one of the best fielders (about the drop matches). Timing of the drop catches is very crucial; things would have been different had we taken that catch of Uthappa. There was enough in the wicket to defend 160. We just have to regroup and quickly. We need that spark and the winning momentum. We just need someone to have that kind of day that changes things for us. So far it is not happening, hopefully it happens in the coming matches. It is about staying tight as a group. We have to focus on the process and believe in ourselves. I will be able to tell you tomorrow (about his hamstring). I was able to field. I didn’t want to take chance with my bowling. Doesn’t look bad.
