Sunrisers Hyderabad were coming off on the back of a MS Dhoni-carnage and a rained out affair. The momentum for them has been stalled to an extent. Punjab, on the other hand, returned after defeating the Gujarat Lions after a string of four losses to get their campaign back on track.

Fifties from the top three, a victory despite not winning the toss, their bowlers and batsmen both providing them with brilliant contributions- SRH couldn’t have asked for more. KXIP had looked fairly better this season, their batting was not as much a letdown as their bowling was. But there was, however, an injury concern for Amla as he paved way for Martin Guptill.

The bowling again put KXIP in a fix as the target was 204, and in the end, it proved to be too much for them to chase as SRH once again proved that they could defend scores even one a batting paradise that Mohali was today. Here are 5 Game Changing Moments from the game:

1. Dhawan joins the ‘Dominating Openers Club’

While Warner took his time to settle in, Dhawan compensated for that by hitting it clean from ball one and kept the scorecard ticking along with a positive approach in that process. Just when the spinners tried to dominate, Warner hit some into the stands forcing Maxwell to rethink his plans.

The race for the Champions Trophy is on, and Shikhar Dhawan’s only contributing to that cause if he is already being considered as the preferred opener. With 77 off 48, he played the match-winning knock he has been missed for, since a long time. Only a stunning catch from Maxwell could end his campaign today.

2. Kane Williamson’s class took over

The bleeding for KXIP didn’t stop even after Warner and Dhawan were back into the hut. There was a surprise package in the form of Williamson today, who consolidated in the middle overs and finished off in a grand fashion compiling a spectacular fifty while at it.

His 54* off 27 is not unlike him at all. But it was more of a reminder of his prowess in the shorter format as well. Sunrisers have a lot of options for their overseas spots and Williamson might have well saved the spot for himself after the blitzkrieg today.

3. Rashid Khan personified control

Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were brilliant, to say the least. To register the kind of figures he did in a game where stopping runs proved to be difficult for all other bowlers on a belter of a pitch deserves praise. At no stage during the chase did it feel like SRH were not in control, which can be credited to Rashid’s spell which ensured that the required rate shot up over 14 with six overs still left.

Even at his best, Marsh wasn’t able to take the attack to the Afghanistan leggie as he just didn’t pick him most of the time. Rashid’s figures read: 4-0-16-1. Enough said.

4. Bhuvi, Kaul  and Nehra  chipped in vital wickets

Bhuvi’s not letting the Purple Cap go anytime soon. He was pretty much in the running for winning the Man of the Match according to Haydos and Aakash Chopra because, despite the obsession with numbers, it has to be noted that he took the big wickets of Guptill and Marsh.

The first, looking extremely dangerous on his debut for the franchise and the other, Marsh brought KXIP to a respectable position. In the four overs bowled, he took 2 wickets and conceded 27 runs.

Kaul was pretty exceptional. Despite being hit occasionally, he took 3 wickets with 36 runs conceded. He dismissed Maxwell for a duck, and Saha for just 2 runs and also sending Axar Patel back for 16.

Nehra was definitely uneconomical giving away 42 runs, but again the regular wickets from him made sure that the momentum stayed with SRH. Manan Vohra was the first to fall prey, he then cleaned the tail.

5. Marsh’s heroics in vain

A valiant effort from Shaun Marsh to seal the win. Another valuable knock from the run-machine from Punjab, but a sorry state for it to end up in a losing cause. He himself was unstoppable till the time Bhuvneshwar took his wicket, but the lack of support from the other end was the reason that it did end in vain.

His 84 off 50 was the highest individual score of the match, and it consisted of 14 fours and 2 sixes. He looked good alongside Morgan and the partnership was building, but credit to Shaun Marsh alone for showing fight in a match that was pretty much out of hands for KXIP after their openers went back cheaply.
