Gujarat Lions vs Mumbai Indians:

Transfer out: Hashim Amla, KC Cariappa/Murugan Ashwin

Transfer in: Rohit Sharma, Krunal Pandya

Kanpur will be hosting its second and last game of this season and what better than a virtual quarter-final between the Gujarat Lions and the Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai have had a long break before this crunch encounter and would be raring to have a go at the inconsistent Lions unit. Their bowlers have been in great nick and with Martin Guptill being drafted into the top order, their batting too looks very solid.

The Lions had set the IPL on fire in the first few games but since then they have strung a series of disappointing performances to land up in this rut.

Will the big 3 step up today for the Lions or will the Mumbai Indians continue their run of forcing themselves into the playoffs by making a late surge.

Now, I already have Suresh Raina and Brendon McCullum in my team for this game.

Again I’ll be making just one change for this game and it’ll be Rohit Sharma. This change could be a little surprising considering the swing on offer in the last game here, but that was primarily because of the freshness of the wicket and when there is a big game, you need to get the big players in and Rohit is certainly a big game player.

The next best option is Dwayne Smith, especially considering the fact that Suresh Raina has been trusting him with more than 2 overs every game. But you can’t expect him to always run through the opposition, especially with the batting prowess that the Mumbai Indians possess.

The next best picks for this game will be Mitchell McCleneghan and Guptill. I will rate McCleneghan higher than Guptill because of his death bowling skills and the fact that he gives me 24 chances of scoring points.

I have already explained why Aaron Finch and Dinesh Karthik don’t fit the bill.

For the uncapped player, I get in Krunal Pandya. His all round abilities and his performance in Vizag the last time round, tempt me to get him in.

Batting captain: Rohit Sharma (if MI bat second)/Suresh Raina (if GL bat second)

Bowling captain: Krunal Pandya
