IPL 2017: Full schedule of Rising Pune Supergiants

The Rising Pune Supergiants despite their performance in the previous edition can be included among the frontrunners to lift the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) Trophy in the 10th edition of the tournament. With a massive variety of firepower in the team, the Sanjiv Goenka Group owned franchise will be seen under the captaincy of Australian skipper Steve Smith who took over the role from the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The Supergiants team that was formed in the year of 2015 and has featured in the tournament only once (2016), will kick off their campaign against the Mumbai Indians at home, in the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) International Stadium in Pune.

The franchise performed quite well in the 2017 IPL auctions and picked the most expensive player in English all-rounder Ben Stokes for a hulking 14.5 crore. Stokes also replaced former Indian skipper MS Dhoni as the highest paid player in the squad.

The team looks a very tough nut to crack on paper with the likes of South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Aussie duo Adam Zampa and Usman Khawaja apart from the above mentioned  Dhoni, Steve Smith and Ben Stokes.

The team also has Indian middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane who has been a tremendous player for the Rajasthan Royals in the previous editions and one of the fairy tales of the Indian Premier League. The short, right-hander is also an integral part of the Indian Test side. Other notable buys for the team are Dan Christian, Lockie Ferguson, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Chahar and Jaydev Unadkat.

The only worry for the team came a few days back when Australian all rounder Mitchell Marsh picked up an injury during the ongoing Test series against India. The player has been ruled out for a decent amount of time and will miss the early part of the IPL.

Following their season opener on April 6th, the Supergiants will travel to Indore in order to engage themselves in a thrilling encounter with the Kings XI Punjab. Here is the full list of matches Steve Smith and his team will go through during IPL 2017.
