Mumbai Indians is going through a purple patch in Vivo IPL 10 as the two-time champions are already on their way to qualifying for the playoffs with 6 wins from 7 ties. A win tomorrow will see them sit pretty at the top of the points table requiring only a solitary win from the last 6 games to book a place for the playoffs.

Despite a mediocre performance by the batters, MI bowlers did the job for them by restricting Delhi to 128 after asking them to chase a modest target of 143. Left-arm seamer Mitchell McCleneghan was just sensational upfront finishing with figures of 3/24 which also earned him the Man of the Match Award. Comeback man Mitchell Johnson also bowled with venom but couldn’t show it in his wickets column.

Apart from the previous encounter, their batting line-up has looked pretty organised with young guns Nitish Rana, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya hogging the limelight. The Pandya brothers have been real assets to their franchise and have added the much-needed balance to the side with their all-round abilities. Rana had the orange cap earlier in the tournament and he will look to carry on the good run in the tournament so far.

Rising Pune Supergiant will be bolstered by the fact that their former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni roared back to form in the encounter against the SUnrisers Hyderabad where he rolled back the years and played the finisher’s knock with which we associate him the most. He took it till the very end and added the killer punch which left the defending champions scratching their head.

The bowling department has got some stick on occasions but given they have some clever bowlers who can deceive the Mumbai batsmen. Imran Tahir has been phenomenal with his wicket taking abilities but on occasions, he has gone for runs. The form of Manoj Tiwary will be a big plus for RPS who has been pretty useful towards the fag end of the innings. Now with more than 12 hours to go for the 28th encounter of the tournament to commence, here we have a look at the match predictions for tomorrow.

Here is what Crictracker predicts for the game:

Scenario 1: MI will win the toss

Toss Prediction: MI choose to bowl

First innings prediction: 150-155

2nd innings Prediction: MI will win by 8 wickets (with 4 overs to spare)

Scenario 2: RPS will win the toss

Toss Prediction: RPS choose to bowl

First innings Prediction: 190-200

2nd innings Prediction: MI will win by 45 runs

Head to Head Record

Overall: Total Matches –3, MI Won – 1, RPS Won – 2

Mumbai India’s only defeat came at the hands of Rising Pune Supergiant in their opening clash of the tournament. It was a magical innings from Smith but a lot has changed from now. Mumbai made a dramatic comeback after their loss and has gone on to win 6 on a trot, whereas RPS has had a topsy-turvy start to the season with 3 wins and 3 losses in the 6 matches they have played some far. In all both teams have played each other thrice with RPS winning twice.

Given Mumbai’s terrific run especially in their fortress Wankhede Stadium, it will be a monumental task for Pune to replicate their performance from the first match. A win for Mumbai tomorrow will make their road that much easier for the playoffs.

Team Combinations

Mumbai Indians

Lasith Malinga who conceded 58 runs in 4 overs in the last match he played made way for Mitchell Johnson who looked good in the Big Bash League. Though he couldn’t bag a wicket, he bowled with pace up front and supported McCleneghan pretty well. In his 4 overs, the left-arm pacer conceded only 23 runs so he is expected to retain his place.

Leaving Malinga out is a pretty big call but given his form of late, it might be a nice move to persist with two left arm seamers. The team has looked a settled unit and they are unlikely to tinker with their winning combination.

Predicted XI: Jos Buttler, Parthiv Patel, Nitish Rana, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McCleneghan, Mitchell Johnson, Jasprit Bumrah

Rising Pune Supergiant

After a victory in the previous encounter it is highly unlikely that they will change their combination but given the Wankhede track, they might make a few strategical moves here and there. Washington Sundar who made his debut the other day was given the opening over despite being primarily as a batsman and the 17 years old responded well by conceding only 11 runs in his first 2 overs.

The bowling line-up has been pretty impressive in the last two games and they will surely look to keep their momentum going as we come to the crucial phase of the tournament. A victory tomorrow for RPS will surely do a world of good to them, while MI will look to keep their winning momentum at the Wankhede intact.

Predicted XI: Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Tripathi, Steve Smith, MS Dhoni, Ben Stokes, Manoj Tiwary, Dan Christian, Washington Sundar, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat

Both teams have won their previous two matches but MI has been going through a sensational streak which has seen them winning6 on a trot. So it will be a big task for RPS to overhaul MI especially in front of a jam-packed Wankhede crowd.
