Ravi Ashwin has been appointed as the skipper of Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The off-spinner will be leading a T20 side for the first time ever and it will be a great opportunity for him to display his captaincy skills during the course of the tournament. However, Australian opener Aaron Finch was excited about playing under him and congratulated the cricketer for being selected as the leader of the pack.
Ashwin was preferred over India’s most celebrated player Yuvraj Singh who will be playing once again for Punjab franchise. The team is also boasted with the likes of Chris Gayle and David Miller who are T20 specialists and can tear apart any bowling attack on the given day. Also, this will be the first time that Ashwin will be playing for any other team when CSK is playing the IPL. He featured for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in 2016 when CSK was suspended for a couple of years.
Finch’s congratulatory tweet
Aaron Finch was thrilled after hearing the news of Ashwin being appointed as the leader of the pack of KXIP franchise. Both have been on the opposite sides playing for their respective national teams and will be playing together for the first time. “Very excited to be playing under @ashwinravi99 in the IPL this season! Can’t wait to get started with @lionsdenkxip.” Clearly, the opener wants to get on with the Indian T20 extravaganza which will get underway on April 7. Also, he will be most likely opening the innings with Gayle.
Ashwin too was active on social media and was quick to respond to Finch’s congratulatory message. He too was delighted to play with the Australian and tweeted, “Happy to be on the same side for a change mate.” Kings XI will begin their campaign with an away game against Delhi Daredevils on April 8 at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.
