The preparations for the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League has already begun. The franchises are naming their captains and the support staff as well. All the teams are keen on beefing up their management with big names. The former cricketers and the legends of the game are getting involved in the tournament. In a recent development, it is apparent that former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad could also get an IPL job.

Venkatesh Prasad is in the frame to become the new bowling head coach of the Kings XI Punjab. Prasad had recently stepped down as the selector of the All Indian Junior Selection Committee. His resignation had come on Friday. While the reasons for the same were not revealed, it is apparent that Prasad is one of the top contenders to be the next bowling coach of the Kings XI Punjab.

Prasad quits the role of selector

Meanwhile, the BCCI has a few names in their minds to take over the job of the U19 selector. Many might wonder why did Venkatesh Prasad have to quit his job as the selector, even if he was taking up a new assignment. The reason stands pretty evident though. As per the recent changes made in the governance of the BCCI following the recommendations of the Lodha Panel, a person cannot hold two important offices in the cricket functioning of the country.

Hence, with two jobs in hand – being the selector and being the bowling coach of an IPL franchise – there would have been a conflict of interest from the side of Venkatesh Prasad. It is the very same reason why Rahul Dravid had stepped down as the mentor of the Delhi Daredevils last year in order to take up the role of the coach of the India A and India U19 teams.

The Kings XI Punjab setup boasts of former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag as the Director of Cricket Operations. Also, they recently appointed Ravichandran Ashwin as the new franchise captain.
