On the back of a terrific knock from Faf du Plessis, Chennai Super Kings are through to yet another IPL final. This is the 7th time when the MS Dhoni-led CSK are in the finals. They have won the title twice and come Sunday, they will look to complete the hattrick of the IPL title.
During the auction earlier in the year, CSK management was mocked for picking a side whose average age was over 30. However, the CSK skipper maintained that the experience counts when the situations become daunting. CSK were in a spot of bother when they lost quick wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers, chasing a rather average target. However, at the Wankhede, the ball was not coming on to the bat and the SRH bowlers made sure that the run chase wasn’t easy. That is where the experience of Faf du Plessis came to the rescue.
Thala Dhoni gets a tribute from Dwayne Bravo
Dhoni is known for taking calls which the fans and experts find silly at times. Like, when he dropped Billings and played Faf in the qualifier. Fans and experts were shocked. Eventually, Dhoni asked Faf to open instead of Rayudu who has been in some terrific form. Rayudu failed coming down the order but not Faf, as he delivered for the skipper when it mattered the most.
Chennai Super Kings’ Instagram handle posted after the game where all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who had bowled a terrific spell earlier in the innings of SRH dancing and singing a song for skipper Dhoni. Notably, Dhoni will play his 8th IPL final, 7 with CSK and one with Rising Pune Super Giants as a player.
Earlier, the CSK bowlers troubled the SRH from the start when Deepak Chahar removed Shikhar Dhawan on the first ball of the match, shattering his stumps. Skipper Williamson who had bailed out the side on numerous occasions couldn’t do much as he was removed by Thakur to peg back the side. Jadeja and Bravo’s economical spells meant that SRH struggled in the middle overs. However, Carlos Brathwaite’s late attack made sure that the SRH had a total to defend.
