Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the most celebrated teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and have garnered a significant fan base as the tournament has progressed. The team had a glorious run in the league as they finished among the top four teams on every occasion under the leadership of the enigmatic Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
However, they were banned for a couple of seasons after being found guilty of match-fixing scandals. Nevertheless, they played their first game against Mumbai after which they entertained the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai with a thumping victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Meanwhile, the Cauvery Water Dispute has turned out to be a major bone of contention in the city.
The sad moments for Faf du Plessis
There were several protests in the city owing to the matter which has only turned murkier with the passage of time. During the game at the Chepauk, shoes were thrown at Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja, which concerned the tournaments authorities to a large extent. Subsequently, they have decided to shift Chennai’s home matches to the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium (MCA) in Pune.
Prior to the game, several political parties threatened to turn up with protests and spoilsport to the matches. Hence, the security was tightened and as many as 4000 policemen patrolled the surrounding area of the stadium. However, despite the precautionary measure, they couldn’t completely cut down on the shameful incident of ‘shoe-pelting’.
Faf du Plessis was bagged for INR 1.60 crores by the Chennai franchise, but he didn’t the opening couple of games. The South African cricketer is deeply saddened by what has panned out in the city over the days. The Proteas skipper took to Twitter and dropped an emotional message for CSKs fans.
