All the home matches of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are moved out of Chennai following the severe protests during the game at the Chepauk on Tuesday. Cauvery water issue has heated up in the city as all the politician groups and parties had earlier warned them to shift or postpone the matches. Though the IPL Governing Council went ahead according to the schedule only to face its consequences. However, the chairman of the IPL Rajiv Shukla has revealed the most likely home venue for CSK.
There was unrest among the fans in the city on the match day as the political parties had protested staging of the match outside the Stadium. Police also arrested 10 members of a TVK party who tried to enter the main gate of the venue with black flags in their hands. Also, shoes were thrown on the ground by few people in order to disrupt the proceedings in the game.
What is the venue?
Rajiv Shukla, the Chairman of the IPL, confirmed the news of the matches being shifted out of Chennai on Tuesday and revealed that Pune is likely to host the remaining home matches of CSK this season. “We are moving all matches out of Chennai. A final decision will be announced soon. The most likely venue will be Pune,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Earlier there were reports that they had shortlisted 4 venues as an option to replace Chennai as a venue. Trivandrum, Visakhapatnam and Rajkot were also in the list. Pune was already scheduled to host the eliminator and second qualifier of the tournament this year. It will be interesting now as Dhoni had played for the now-defunct Pune franchise itself last year and he will be at advantage now knowing the conditions in the city.
