Mumbai Indians (MI) were dealt with a severe blow after Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to an injury. The high-intense four-match Test series against South Africa took the toll on the cricketer as he did not arrive in India for the tournament itself. The franchise had bought him for a whopping amount of Rs 5.2 Crores in the auction earlier this year. However, they have sought services of an exciting Kiwi fast bowler as his replacement now.
The defending champions are yet to register a victory after playing two matches this season. Moreover, both their losses have been heartbreaking given the fact that they were in winning positions and were on the receiving end in the final over heroics from the opposition. Nevertheless, they would love to get on the board soon and shift the momentum towards them.
Who is the replacement?
According to the reports in ESPN Cricinfo, New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne is set to replace Cummins in the squad for the remainder of the season for MI. He was seen training with the squad ahead of their game against Delhi Daredevils at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Though the news hasn’t been confirmed yet by IPL or the franchise and the announcement is expected to be done sooner or later.
Milne is a decent T20 bowler and has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last couple of seasons. He went unsold in the auction this year. He has played in 70 T20 matches so far in his career and has picked 83 wickets at an amazing average of 23.21 and the strike rate of 17.9. Moreover, his best figures in the format are 5/11 which is brilliant and has a four-wicket haul to his name as well. He will be excited to join the team officially and don the jersey of Mumbai Indians.
