Kings XI Punjab moved to the top of the points table courtesy of their 3rd consecutive win as they won four out of the five matches they played this season. Chris Lynn finally played an impactful knock in the season scoring a 74-run knock as the home team posted 191/7 in their 20 overs. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle pair added 96 in just 8.2 overs before the rain reduced their target to 125 in 13 overs. Punjab finished the chase for the loss of one wicket with 11 balls to spare.

1 – For the first time in his IPL career, Chris Gayle scored fifty-plus scores in three consecutive innings. He scored 63 against CSK and an unbeaten 104 against SRH. He never scored fifty-plus scores in consecutive IPL innings between 2013 and 2017.
2 – Kings XI Punjab defeated Kolkata Knight Riders twice in two IPL matches after losing eight consecutive games against them. This was also their first win in six IPL games they played since 2013 in Kolkata against KKR.
9 – Only the 3rd time Kings XI Punjab won an IPL match by nine and more wickets margin. They defeated Daredevils by ten wickets in a rain-affected game in 2017 and RCB by nine wickets in the first IPL edition. This was the 6th instance of Kolkata Knight Riders losing an IPL game by nine wickets.
116 – The 116-run opening stand between KL Rahul and Chris Gayle is the 2nd highest opening stand in IPL in Kolkata against KKR. Gayle shared a 123-run stand with Tillakaratne Dilshan for RCB in 2011. This is also KXIP’s highest opening stand since the start of 2012.
304 – Dinesh Karthik became the 11th player to hit 300 fours in the IPL. He hit six fours during his 28-ball 43 in this game.
516 – Runs Chris Gayle scored in his last eight T20 innings. Gayle scored those runs at an average of 129 with three centuries and two fifties. He hit 26 fours and 53 sixes in these eight T20 innings.
