The second match of IPL 11 which took place at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium this evening saw some remarkable action as the Kings XI Punjab beat the Delhi Daredevils to start their campaign with a bang. While there were quite a few decent performances in the match, two players, in particular, remained the talking points on Twitter and they were the openers of the two teams, Gautam Gambhir and KL Rahul.

Gautam Gambhir was back to his home franchise after spending 7 seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders and he led Delhi from the front straightaway with a skilful fifty opening the batting. His game against spin was a treat to watch as always as he manipulated the spinners on both sides of the wicket and pierced the gaps perfectly to collect some eye-catching boundaries.

The Twitterati had a nice chuckle watching Gambhir’s knock as they took a dig at the Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi who has had many altercations with Gambhir in the past, both on the field as well as on social media. The Twitterati were joking that Gambhir is actually looking at the ball as Afridi and smashing it as hard as he can.

While Gambhir’s innings got Delhi to a respectable total, it was KL Rahul who caught the game by the scruff of the neck in the second innings as he went ballistic during the chase of 167 and scored the fastest IPL fifty ever off just 14 balls, carting the Delhi bowlers all around the park with disdain. It was stroke-play of the highest quality by the Karnataka right-hander.

Rahul’s batting prompted Twitterati to troll the Royal Challengers Bangalore who didn’t retain Rahul ahead of the auction despite having the opportunity to do so and retained the uncapped player Sarfaraz Khan instead.
