The Delhi Daredevils registered a much needed win in their previous home game against the Rajasthan Royals. They were in a do or die situation in the game and ended up holding their nerves to eke out a narrow win. Well, the good work was done but the job is still not done yet. The Daredevils have to win their remaining fixtures to ensure that they stay alive in the race for the playoffs.
While the venue in Delhi has been a happy hunting ground for them, their next hurdle is an away game this season. They are set to lock horns with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad in a double header on Saturday. It is worth noting that SRH is a very dominant force in their backyard. Furthermore, the Sunrisers have registered improbable wins in their previous three games by defending very low scores.
With this backdrop, the Delhi Daredevils will know that the task in hand is a very tough one. But the reward is worth fighting for. Knowing that a defeat could mean the end of the road for them this season, the Daredevils will try and get their best possible combinations for the game. The think tank will have to get their permutations right and here we try to analyze what the team could go forward with.
Here is the Delhi Daredevils Predicted XI for the match:
Openers (Jason Roy, Prithvi Shaw)
Young Prithvi Shaw has been a revelation for the Delhi Daredevils this season. A couple of matches earlier, he had become the youngest player to score a fifty in the IPL. He has backed it up with decent knocks in the matches that followed. In the most recent game, he played a brisk knock of 47 runs and looks in sublime form.
Shaw could be accompanied by Jason Roy in the lineup. The young English opener has already made a few appearances for the Daredevils this season. He has also played a match winning knock against the Mumbai Indians. With Colin Munro failing in the previous two attempts, Roy could fancy his chances in Hyderabad.
Middle-Order (Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell)
The middle-order looks rock solid for the Delhi Daredevils at the moment. The newly appointed skipper Shreyas Iyer is in top form. Iyer has hit four fifties in the last couple of weeks in the season. This includes a whirlwind knock of 93 runs as well. His sublime form has been the key to the DD resurgence this season.
Along with Iyer, another man who has been consistently performing well for the Daredevils is Rishabh Pant. He has hit two fifties in the previous two games in the season. Pant hit his fastest IPL fifty in the previous game. And with that knock, he had also got hold of the Orange Cap in the season.
While the Indian duo of Iyer and Pant have been scoring heavily for the double Ds, the overseas recruit Glenn Maxwell has been largely disappointing. He has got brisk starts but has failed to hold on to the starts. However, he has given crucial breakthroughs for the team with the ball in hand.
All-rounders (Vijay Shankar)
All-rounder Vijay Shankar had a very meek start to the season. He had failed with the bat and his performances with the ball were not impressive either. But, in the previous two games, Vijay Shankar has shown some good form. He scored a fifty against the Chennai Super Kings and then played a handy cameo against the Royals in the previous game as well.
Spinners (Shahbaz Nadeem, Amit Mishra)
The spin department is not short on any experience quota for the double Ds. Shahbaz Nadeem is likely to retain his place in the side. With the track in Hyderabad assisting the spinners, the role of the left arm spinner becomes very vital for the chances of any team in the competition.
Meanwhile, veteran leggie Amit Mishra is a certain starter for the match. Mishra has a lot of experience of playing in Hyderabad. Also, he has played for the opposition franchise in the previous years. Furthermore, his current form with the ball makes him a direct inclusion in the side.
Pace bowlers (Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Liam Plunkett)
Indian bowler Avesh Khan had a forgetful time with the ball in the match against the Royals. However, that is unlikely to take him out of the side for the game against SRH. Avesh has bowled decently well in the season, save the game against the Royals.
Trent Boult will continue to spearhead the Delhi Daredevils pace bowling attack. He has been the best bowler for his franchise this season. Not only has he kept the things tight up front with the new ball, but also has contributed well for the team in the death overs. He has been the go to man for his captain.
Liam Plunkett had made a very impressive start to his campaign this season. He came up with two consecutive impressive performances. However, the previous two games have been disappointing for him. Despite this, he is likely to retain his place in the side considering the fact that his style of bowling will get assistance from the Hyderabad track.
