Mumbai Indians finally managed to cross the line in a match that went down to the wire this season as they defeated the Knight Riders by 13 runs. The home team’s plans with the ball in the final overs were executed perfectly for once as they successfully defended the total of 181. Mumbai were marching towards a 200+ score after the start provided by their openers. However, their batting and the decision in the last five overs cost them at least 15 runs. The defending champions will now face KKR in the reverse fixture on Tuesday which will also be a do-or-die game for them.

2 – Only the 2nd time Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten during an unsuccessful run-chase in the IPL. He scored an unbeaten 58 against KXIP in the previous edition while playing for Gujarat. This is also the 3rd time that Karthik remained unbeaten in an unsuccessful chase in his professional career. He was unbeaten on 44 during the 2007 Southampton ODI against England where India fell short of the target by 105 runs.


6 – Number of times Rohit Sharma has lost his wicket to Sunil Narine in the IPL. These are the joint most times any player has dismissed Rohit in the IPL. Vinay Kumar has also dismissed him on six occasions in the tournament.


7 – Mumbai Indians registered their 7th consecutive win in the IPL against the Kolkata Knight Riders. This is the first time MI won seven consecutive IPL matches against any opposition.


14 – Hardik Pandya is the new purple cap holder with 14 wickets in the season thus far. He had only ten wickets in the 37 matches in the IPL before this season.


14Robin Uthappa now has scored 14 fifty-plus scores in the IPL while batting second. Only Gautam Gambhir (20) and David Warner (20) have more fifty-plus scores in chases than Uthappa. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also scored 14 fifty-plus scores while batting in a chase in the IPL.


200 – JP Duminy became the 6th South African to hit 200 sixes in the Twenty20 format. He hit a six off Sunil Narine in the 19th over of their innings.


1011Suryakumar Yadav completed 1000 runs in his IPL career in 52nd innings. His tally is the highest among the current uncapped players in the IPL.


4037 – Robin Uthappa became the 6th player to complete 4000 runs in the IPL. He completed the milestone when he reached the individual score of 19 with a six off Mayank Markande.
