Mumbai Indians continued their impeccable record against the Kolkata Knight Riders and their comebacks in the month of May with a huge 102-run win. The 19-year-old Ishan Kishan changed the course of the match in favour of MI with a blistering 21-ball 62 helped his team finish on 210/6. The home team was outplayed by Mumbai as they could only score 108 before getting bowled out. The defending champions now moved into the top four on the points table surpassing KKR and also improved their NRR.

All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during KKR’s biggest defeat in the IPL:

8 – Mumbai Indians’ streak of 8 wins against Kolkata Knight Riders is the joint biggest for any team against an opponent in the IPL. KKR had previously defeated KXIP in eight consecutive matches in the IPL as well. RCB also won eight consecutive IPL matches against DD which includes a win in the Super Over.


17Ishan Kishan’s 17-ball fifty is the joint fastest fifty ever by a Mumbai Indians player in the IPL. Kieron Pollard had scored a 17-ball fifty against KKR at the Wankhede in the 2016 season.


50 – Rohit Sharma became the 3rd captain to win 50 matches in the IPL. MS Dhoni (90) and Gautam Gambhir (71) are the other two captains with 50 IPL wins. Rohit’s IPL captaincy career also began at the Eden Gardens against KKR with a win.


100 – This match was Rohit Sharma‘s 100th Twenty20 game as captain. He is now the 9th player and the 4th Indian to have played 100 T20 matches as captain. His maiden T20 game as captain was also against KKR at the Eden Gardens in 2013.


102 – Kolkata Knight Riders’ 102-run defeat in this match is their first 100-run defeat in the IPL. Their previous biggest defeat was by 92 runs also against MI in the 2009 edition.

The 102-run win is MI’s 2nd biggest win in the IPL after their 146-run win against DD in the previous season.


108/10 – KKR’s total of 108 is their lowest total in the IPL at the Eden Gardens. They were bowled out for 109 by the Chennai Super Kings in the 2010 season at this venue.


210/6 – Mumbai Indians’ total of 210/6 in this match is their highest IPL total at the Eden Gardens. The previous highest was 204/2 by Kings XI Punjab in the 2010 edition while chasing KKR’s total of 200. MI’s score is the 2nd highest in the T20 format at this venue behind Uttar Pradesh’s 235/3 against Bengal earlier this year.


1002 – Piyush Chawla became the 4th player and the first leg-spinner to bowl 1000 dot balls in the IPL. He is also the 2nd spinner after Harbhajan Singh to bowl 1000 dot balls in the IPL.
