The Royal Challengers Bangalore after losing their first game of the campaign at Eden Gardens made a grand comeback at home as they got better of the Kings XI Punjab and beat them by 4 wickets last night to add two points to their tally.

Winning the toss and bowling first, RCB couldn’t get the ball rolling straightaway as KL Rahul smashed a couple of sixes in the very first over of Chris Woakes, but the Indian speedster Umesh Yadav broke through at the other end and removed three of the top Punjab batters in quick succession to push the visitors’ back against the wall.

A brief partnership between KL Rahul and Karun Nair steadied the ship, but once Washington Sundar lured Rahul into a false stroke and got him caught at the short third man, Punjab’s chances of posting a par score were pretty minimal. A handy contribution from the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin down the order still dragged them past 150, but it was never going to be enough on a decent Chinnaswamy surface.

RCB had a few hiccups in the chase, none bigger than Virat Kohli being dismissed cheaply by the rookie Afghan spinner Mujeeb Zadran who totally bamboozled him with a well disguised googly, but the South African duo of Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers made sure the chase remained on track.

There was, however, a little twist in the tale again, as Ashwin sent de Kock and Sarfaraz Khan back on successive deliveries, releasing the pressure and making the game even-stevens, but as long as de Villiers was there, RCB always had the upper hand and the great man didn’t disappoint them as he landed a few knockout punches at the end to seal the deal.

The twitter, just like any other day, was lit during the game and a number of funny memes surfaced displaying the happiness of the RCB fans as it was one of those rare days for them to celebrate.
