IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians announce their new sponsors for the next three years

The three-time champion team will carry the name of a new brand this time around.

The popular mobile brand Samsung has been named as the official title sponsors of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The defending champions of the global Twenty20 tournament will be in association with Samsung for the next three seasons. As per reports, Samsung who shall be taking the place of Videocon has signed this three-year deal for INR 25 crores per annum.

Earlier, the Chennai Super Kings had also struck a similar value deal with their title sponsor The Muthoot Group and thus, these two IPL franchises are only teams in the tournament to associate with the best of title sponsorship deals in the history of IPL. As per an exclusive report by Insidesport.co, the Mumbai franchise was already in talks with Samsung regards to their prospective partnership as the title sponsors replacing Videocon who were in association with the IPL franchise for five years since 2013.

The most successful franchise in the IPL with three titles in its kitty, the Reliance Group owned Mumbai franchise has established themselves over the years with some of the best commercial evaluations.

“Samsung has shown unprecedented keenness to invest its marketing resources on cricket. The franchisees too are excited with over 50% gains for the property in comparison to last year,” said a source earlier to this official deal signing, as quoted by Insidesport.

Netflix enters in a deal with MI for the upcoming IPL season

Netflix, which is a popular online streaming, and the video-on-demand provider has decided to enter the fray in the IPL. Netflix has struck a deal with Mumbai where they will cover and stream MI’s IPL journey as the tournament progresses. They will be screening a 8-episode documentary series, which will be aired on the Netflix and will cover on-field and off-field course of the side.
