The shorter format of the game, especially in the IPL is unpredictable, to say the least. The bowlers cannot stick to the same line and length every time by coming up with variations to ensure that batsmen do not line you up is the key in T20 cricket. The knuckleball has become so popular that almost every bowler has mastered it. Thus, to remain effective and bowl economical spells in T20 cricket a bowler needs to have a few tricks up his sleeve.
After Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the third player from Afghanistan to feature in the Indian Premier League. He was purchased by the Kings XI Punjab at the IPL auction. The 17-year old impressed everyone with his variations at the ICC U-19 World Cup.
However, he was not expected to be drafted into the playing XI right from the start of the IPL. The KXIP management showed faith in the young leggie and he did not disappoint his captain as he can surely be termed as one of the finds of the season.
The mystery spinner
Preity Zinta acknowledged Mujeeb’s contribution to KXIP and lauded his efforts on Twitter. She tweeted:” Mujeeb is wonderful & super talented. It was unfortunate he got injured but we are very happy to have him with us at @lionsdenkxip.” Mujeeb was taken off the field as he injured his bowling hand during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Holkar stadium in Indore.

The young spinner was one of the most consistent performers for KXIP. The tweaker bamboozled batsmen much like his countryman Rashid Khan had in his first year of the Indian Premier League. Mujeeb picked up 14 wickets from 11 matches at an economy of 6.99. His loss affected KXIP badly as they failed to qualify for the playoffs after remaining on top of the table in the initial stages of the tournament.
