The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) crashed out of the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). They managed to win six out of their 14 matches and couldn’t cement their position in the top four of the cash-rich tournament. The franchise lost a string of matches owing to which they found themselves in utter shambles. They were required to win four matches on the trot out of which they won three and kept their hopes alive in the event.
They locked horns with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their final round-robin match. However, they stumbled perilously and eventually were brushed aside by 30 runs. Their bowlers were clinical and only allowed the hosts to score 164 runs in their allotted 20 overs. During their run-chase, AB de Villiers and Parthiv Patel made an impressive start and got the visitors close to victory.
Virat Kohli- Silver lining in RCB’s dark clouds
Thereafter, Shreyas Gopal’s leg-breaks turned out to be too hot to handle and they lost wickets in heaps. From a position of strength, they slumped in the match and never made a comeback. Nevertheless, despite, their overall poor performance, they had some bright spots as well, Virat Kohli is one of them. He ended as RCB’s leading run-scorer in the tournament with 530 runs at an average of 48.18.
Virat played some lone hands for his team, but unfortunately couldn’t guide his team to victories. He also racked up six half-centuries and was consistent as a batsman throughout the entire length of the campaign. The RCB skipper also caught the eyeballs of the other franchises and garnered praises from them as well.
Recently, Preity Zinta showered praised the 29-year young spunk on Twitter. A fan asked the co-owner of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to describe Virat and she replied in one word.
