The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have been a force to reckon with thus far and have been clinical in the tournament. With five wins in seven games under their belt, they are looking poised to qualify for the playoffs pretty comfortably. Their batsmen have been a tormenting factor for the oppositions and have been a pivotal reason behind Punjab’s surge in the T20 league.

Meanwhile, they have also suffered a couple of defeats, firstly against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and then against Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. However, their last defeat was comprehensive as the hosts strangled the belligerent lineup through some immaculate display of bowling.

The team had an auspicious start to the game as Ankit Rajpoot’s masterful spell of bowling left the home team in tatters. Barring the half-century partnership between Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan, Ravichandran Ashwin’s men had the Sunrisers batsmen by the scruff of their necks. While defending a modest target, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul took them off to yet another blistering start.

A dismal batting show by the Kings

However, post their dismissal, KXIP lost wickets like line pins and gradually went behind the 8-ball, from where they couldn’t recover. Their shortcomings in the middle order were exposed by the Sunrisers’ bowlers and they were eventually bowled out. Nevertheless, Preity Zinta doesn’t seem perturbed the loss and she took to Twitter and dropped a couple of inspiring messages. The first message read

“It hurts when U lose a game that we should have won ! Full marks to SRH 4 keeping their cool & 4 outplaying usHope this will be a good wake up call 4us halfway into the tournament. We R better than this & we will be back better & stronger. #SRHVsKXIP #Disappointed @lionsdenkxip”

She also posted a picture with Ankit Rajpoot, who had been crowned as the Player of the Match, with another motivational message. She wrote

“Sometimes to Win the War You’ve Got to lose a battle ! Looking Forward, Moving on & Here is our silver lining Wow @Ankit412rajpoot What a performance @lionsdenkxip #manofthmatch #Redforever #livepunjabiplaypunjabi”
