Preity Zinta has been associated with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, her team haven’t had much to cheer over the past ten seasons. They came close to winning the championship back in 2014 but were tantalizingly brushed aside by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The franchise has made some significant changes to their squad during the auction and the decision have paid dividends at least in the opening game. Punjab got themselves off to a blistering start with a comprehensive victory against Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi Daredevils. KL Rahul, who was bagged for a whopping INR 11 crore, notched the fastest half-century in the history of the tournament.
He signaled his intentions from the outset and took the Delhi bowlers to the cleaners. The onslaught laid the platform for the run-chase. After Rahul’s blitz, Karun Nair took over and scored a quick-fire fifty as well, which guided the Kings over the finishing line with more than an over to spare. However, prior to that, their bowlers contained the Delhi batsmen from unleashing their power-hitting skills.
Mujeeb Zadran became the third cricketer from Afghanistan and the youngest participant in the T20 league at a tender age of 17 years. The off-break bowler impressed and churned out the crucial wickets of Colin Munro and Rishabh Pant. Also, Ravichandran Ashwin, who was captaining the franchise for the maiden time, showed nerves of steel and made some judicious moves.
A delighted Preity Zinta
Quite expectantly, Preity Zinta was struck with awe over the all-round performances of the team. The Bollywood actor took to Twitter and shared her happiness on the marvelous outing of the team at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Here is what she wrote
“When @ashwinravi99 leads, @klrahul11 sets a new record, @Mujeeb_Zadran debuts at 17, @karun126 packs a punch & I can’t stop smiling #ting”
