Kings XI Punjab had a dream start to their IPL 2018 campaign, winning 5 of their first 6 games this season. However, since then things have gone downhill and now the Kings find themselves in an unpleasant scenario where they will have to depend on the results of other fixtures in order to ensure qualification.

With 12 points from 13 games, they aren’t totally out of contention and still have a chance to make it to the playoffs if other results go their way.

Here we take a look at the possible scenarios in which the Kings could still make it through and throw their hat in the ring to be crowned this year’s champions.

Qualification Scenario 1: CSK, SRH, KKR, KXIP finish top 4

For this scenario to come into play, Royal Challengers Bangalore need to win against Rajasthan Royals but lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Mumbai Indians lose their next match to Delhi Daredevils.

Kings XI Punjab beat Chennai Super Kings in the last game and will guarantee themselves a Playoffs spot with 14 points, while Mumbai and Bangalore will be left stranded on 12.

Qualification Scenario 2: CSK, SRH, MI, KXIP finish top4

This scenario is a bit tricky one. Mumbai Indians win their game against Delhi Daredevils while Royal Challengers Bangalore lost to Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, third-placed Kolkata Knight Riders also have to lose against Sunrisers Hyderabad by a big margin

Kings XI Punjab will then need to beat Chennai Super Kings by a big margin

in order to qualify in this scenario and will have to hope that Royal Challengers Bangalore lose their way after their recent displays.

Qualification Scenario 3: CSK, SRH, RR/RCB, KXIP finish top 4

For this scenario to come into play, Mumbai Indians need to lose their game against Delhi Daredevils while Kolkata Knight Riders suffer the same fate against Sunrisers Hyderabad, that too by a big margin.

If Mumbai and Kolkata lose their next games, then Kings XI Punjab will have a good chance of making it through only if they beat Chennai Super Kings by a big margin.

Qualification Scenario 4: CSK, SRH, and two other teams based on the points table

If everything else fails, KXIP will have to bank on this final scene where Mumbai Indians lose their game against Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Rajasthan Royals but lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad comprehensively.

Kings XI Punjab loses to Chennai Super Kings by a narrow margin but still make it to the playoffs. However, none of the teams will want to be in this scenario since it will all come down to the last ball of the last game in this case.
