The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) progressed to the Final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following their jaw-dropping performances in the round-robin phase of the cash-rich event. They won nine out of their 14 matches and finished at the top of the points table. The franchise has an inspirational skipper in Kane Williamson, who was handed over the role after David Warner was ousted from this year’s IPL.

The decision turned out to be a masterstroke as he captained the team with dignity and helped them to stay motivated throughout the tournament. He was also their leading run scorer and stood tall for them in the hour of need. SRH was also touted to possess the most lethal bowling lineup with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan in their ranks, who delivered the goods with the leather for the team.

Sunrisers’ spirited run

Rashid picked up 21 wickets in 16 wickets and turned out to be the second highest wicket-taker in the event. The batsmen found it difficult to decipher the mysteries from the Afghanistan leg-break bowler and Rashid kept winning matches for the Sunrisers. However, the team stuttered in the last phase of the league phase and ended the first round with three consecutive defeats.

Nevertheless, despite their late slump, SRH finished atop the table. Their bad patch continued in the Qualifier 1 as well, but they managed to halt their four-match losing streak versus the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second Qualifier.

They went on to the Final against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the back of three defeats against them and t slumped to their fourth drubbing versus MS Dhoni’s men. Following the defeat, Rashid isn’t dissatisfied and rather he hailed the team, its supporters as well as the coaching staff for their spirited turn-up. Here is what he wrote on Twitter

“So the #ipl2018 has come to an end, not the way we wanted to finish it but we’re happy with our performance. want to thanks D management, all the coaches & most importantly all the fans 4 showing so much love & for supporting me throughout D tournament @SunRisers @IPL”
