IPL 2018: Ricky Ponting will not coach any team

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting will not be associated with any IPL franchises for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Ponting, who has been a seasoned veteran in the tournament, is currently in Australia among the commentary panel of the Big Bash League. As the 2018 edition of the IPL is approaching, the build up to the tournament is getting intense with each passing day.

The permutations and combinations that the teams would be heading forward with is catching a lot of attention. With the player retention policies announced, the buzz around the tournament is only getting higher. While the franchises are busy locking up their players on the paper, there is also a lot of research work being done on getting the right support staff.

Among the ones being the top contenders for the positions of the head coaches of the various franchises, the name of Ricky Ponting stood prominent. Ponting was being tipped to coach some or the other franchise in the IPL 2018. Now, as per the latest social media update by Ten Network, Ponting will not coach any team in the tournament.

Previous assignments

During his playing days, Ricky Ponting was associated with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament. He soon moved to the Mumbai Indians roster and even led the side in a few matches. In the recent editions, he was seen coaching the Mumbai franchise. Now, with the IPL 2018 edition coming up, it was being speculated that he was in talks with Delhi Daredevils.

Daredevils were keen on roping him in as their head coach for the tournament. Considering the good work he had done in the Mumbai camp, the Daredevils hopes to turn their fortunes with the help of Ponting. Now, all these claims have come to a standstill.
