Shreevats Goswami’s luck in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t been all that great ever since he made his debut in the cash-rich T20 extravaganza. He was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2008 after which he moved to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2012. However, he didn’t get an opportunity in the tournament for the next five years.
Recently, he was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 1 crore but didn’t get a game for SRH’s first ten matches. Nevertheless, Wriddhiman Saha injured his shoulder owing to which he was drafted into the playing eleven for the encounter against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Saha didn’t play against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) either.
The much-needed opportunity for Goswami
Prior to the match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, Tom Moody, the Sunrisers head coach, mentioned the news. It also meant that Goswami got his second match in the event. The Bengal wicket-keeper hasn’t had much to in the games with the willow as the top order, consisting the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson, has done a chunk of the job in the lineup.
He has been impressive enough with the gloves behind the wicket. In the match against the Daredevils, he clung on to a sharp catch off Shakib Al Hasan’s left-arm spin in order to dismiss Jason Roy. Yesterday, he spent some quality time with left-arm batsman Suresh Raina and leg-break bowler Karn Sharma. He posted a picture on Twitter with a heartfelt message for the CSK cricketers which read as
“So nice to catch up with @ImRaina bhai and getting to talk about cricket and other things in general , and my long time friend @sharmakarn03 . Good fun last night”
