IPL 2018: Twitter hails Faf Du Plessis for splendid knock in the Qualifiers

The Wankhede crowd witnessed a thrilling encounter in the first Qualifier. The Chennai Super Kings managed to attain a spectacular victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. While CSK has progressed to the finals, the Hyderabad franchise stands one more chance to make it into the final.

Put to bat first, SRH struggled from the start. After losing Shikhar Dhawan on the first ball, skipper Kane Williamson tried to recover them from the early slump. However, he failed to do so as wickets kept falling at regular intervals for Hyderabad. In the end, they barely managed to score 139/7, thanks to some late charge by Carlos Brathwaite.

Chennai Super Kings were in a spot of bother quite early. Shane Watson was dismissed for a duck. Siddharth Kaul later had both Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu back in the dugout off consecutive balls. Rashid Khan bowled a gem of a delivery to get rid of MS Dhoni.

The Men in Yellow were reduced to 62/6 staring a possible defeat. However, Faf Du Plessis who was batting since the start managed to proceed slowly. He batted with the likes of Deepak Chahar and Harbhajan Singh to take them home. He found good support from Shardul Thakur at the other end.

Du Plessis finished off things in style with a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first ball of the last over. The Proteas Skipper registered a splendid half-century. Scoring an unbeaten 67 runs from just 42 balls, he hit five boundaries and four sixes. It was a well-calculated knock and came at the right time for the Super Kings.

Twitter was all praise for Du Plessis lifting the CSK up from a collapse. There was lots of appreciation for the right-handed batsman. Right from calling him the wall of CSK to describing him as a champion batsman, all the applause flowed in. There was a good share of memes as well.
