Sunrisers Hyderabad produced yet another spirited bowling display after skipper Kane Williamson’s crucial half-century to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five runs. With the win last night the orange army edged towards qualification to the playoffs and maintained their top spot on the points table. Sunrisers not only registered their fifth consecutive win of the tournament today but also defended yet another low total, riding on some impeccable performance from their bowling unit.

Batting first, SRH skipper Kane Williamson struck a vital half-century as he scored 56 off 39 balls while Shakib made 35 but it was Siraj (3/25) and Southee’s (3/30) fiery spell that eventually put brakes on Sunrisers’ charge. The pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Tim Southee joined hands to help RCB bundle out Sunrisers for a modest 146.

The star-studded RCB batting lineup was once again put to shambles by the SRH bowlers. The big guns failed to fire as Virat Kohli first departed for 39 followed by Proteas stalwart AB de Villers who could manage only 5 runs. De Villers was bowled by Rashid Khan while Kohli was caught by Pathan.

However, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar and young pacer Siddharth Kaul who impressed in the death and brought the match back from the jaws of defeat. De Grandhomme’s kept alive RCB’s cause with consecutive sixes off but it was the pace duo bowled superb yorkers, giving away just 19 runs off the final three overs.

With just 12 needed off the last over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar executed the plan well to keep the batsmen silent. The 28-year-old gave away just 6 runs and took a wicket to seal a crucial victory for the orange army.

In the end, RCB lost by 5 runs and are virtually out of the competition. Following this poor show, Twitterati went into a frenzy as the disappointed fans vented it all out on social media.
