The Royal Challengers Bangalore have perennially struggled with their bowling in the IPL. In the 2018 edition, they arrived with a new-look bowling attack. The likes of Chris Woakes, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Khejroliya, and a few more joined the pace bowling department. Despite the big names joining the roster, the team has largely struggled to contain the run flow of the oppositions.
In their previous two matches, the RCB bowlers have conceded totals in excess of 210. Certainly, that is not a positive sign for the team and their skipper, Virat Kohli. As per the recent quotes in Sportstarlive, RCB pacer Chris Woakes has admitted that the team requires a lot of improvement in many areas. He specifically noted that poor death bowling has been hurting the team big time. He hopes to get the plans executed perfectly in the fixtures to come.
“We’ve got all sorts of areas that need improvement. We’ve not put in our full performance, with bat and bowl. Losing wickets in clusters is something we need to look at. It is not ideal to lose two wickets in an over, or three wickets in the space of two overs. Death over bowling is also something we need to work on. We have the death over bowling plan, but we need to execute,” Chris Woakes quoted.
Chris Woakes backs Virat Kohli’s County plans
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, Chris Woakes’ skipper at the RCB, is also gearing up for a County stint after the IPL. Many former English cricketers have slammed the decision of Surrey to sign Kohli. They believe it is like digging their own graveyard before India tours England after a couple of months. Commenting on the same, Woakes believes that it will be a big opportunity for the young English bowlers to bowl to Virat Kohli. However, he cheekily added that he hopes Kohli does not score big against them in the international fixtures that follows.
“If counties are willing to sign Indian players, then so be it. Having really good overseas players makes county cricket stronger. It will be a great experience for our young guys to bowl to Kohli. However, hopefully, Kohli won’t score too many runs and come into the international series in good form (laughs),” Woakes cheekily remarked.
