He was never really going to play all the matches last year before David Warner was handed a lengthy suspension but fate had different plans for Kane. The Kiwi was appointed as the captain for his first full season and he impressed one and all with his shrewd and brilliant captaincy, leading the Sunrisers to the final in IPL 2018. What was even more impressive is the way Kane showed the way with the bat.

He ended up as the leading run-scorer in last year’s edition with a mammoth 685 runs in 15 matches. He totally destroyed the notion that Test-like batsmen cannot succeed in the fastest moving format of the game. With the English, Australian and South African players due for International assignments during the IPL, Williamson is primed to take over the batting charts for the second time in a row.
