A knockout game and controversy. Wow!! What an eliminator!! The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) were involved in an absolute humdinger. To top it all the last over saw Amit Mishra getting out for obstructing the field. Khaleel Ahmed had bowled a brilliant last over until Keemo Paul slammed the penultimate delivery to the boundary only for DC players to erupt in joy.

The chase of 163 runs began superbly for DC with their openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan tonking the ball from the word go. The former especially was in the zone and he hammered all the bowlers which came in his way on the day. SRH had themselves to blame for dropping India’s one of the superb talents early in the innings and Shaw made them pay.

Despite Dhawan getting out, the youngster continued playing his shots. After 10 overs, things looked well in control of the Capitals. But Khaleel Ahmed changed the dynamics in the 11th over. He sent back Shreyas Iyer and Shaw in the same over. This is where Rishabh Pant came to the party and he took SRH to the cleaners. But the wickets kept falling at the other end.

Rashid Khan changed the game again in the 15th over by bowling a double-wicket maiden. However, all the hard work was undone in the 18th over bowled by Basil Thampi. Pant attacked the low on confidence bowler to churn out 22 runs in the over. With a simple equation, DC should’ve got home easily. But Pant wanted to finish with a bang and that almost cost them the game.

SRH took it to the last over and almost won it by picking wickets including the controversial one only for Paul to keep his nerves in the end.

All batsmen chip in for SRH

After being put in to bat first, SRH got off to a superb start thanks to Martin Guptill. Though he lost his partner Wriddhiman Saha early, the Kiwi partner continued playing strokes. His 19-ball 36 put SRH in a healthy position after which the duo of Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey tackled the spinners on a slow pitch well. They had added 34 runs together and just when one thought that the Orange Army was dominating the game, Manish was snaffled by Keemo Paul.

Williamson then patiently continued to march on with Vijay Shankar at the other end. However, a superb yorker from Ishant Sharma sent the SRH skipper packing after which, the Capitals must have hoped to restrict the opposition under 150. But Shankar and Mohammad Nabi played crucial cameos for their team to propel them to 162 runs for the loss of eight wickets after 20 overs.

DC conceded 47 runs in the last four overs and that brought the game in the balance at the halfway stage. But it needed all the drama to unfold eventually for the Capitals to cross the finish line just.
