Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday enjoyed the Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium with Tamil filmmaker Atlee Kumar. However, controversy struck after trolls made objectionable remarks about Atlee’s skin complexion and the 32-year-old’s fans lashed out at them. Shah Rukh sitting along with the director of 2017 blockbuster ‘Mersal’ also gave space to speculation about a probable joint venture between the two.
In the match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s CSK thrashed Dinesh Karthik’s KKR by 7 wickets after restricting them to 108 for 9 in 20 overs. In-form Andre Russell was the pick of the KKR batsman, scoring 50 not out in 44 deliveries while CSK pacer Deepak Chahar was adjudged the Man of the Match for his show of 3 wickets for 20 runs.
In the stands, Atlee was seen sitting with KKR co-owner, when the trolls targeted him over his skin colour and his fans hit back over the racist remarks. One Twitter user said the Tamil filmmaker had sat beside SRK by virtue of his hard work while those who were targeting him did nothing other than making remarks from the comfort of their home.
Speculation on over Atlee and SRK’s joint venture
There was speculation that Atlee is trying to rope in the Bollywood veteran for a cameo role in his upcoming film ‘Thalapathy 63’ with actor Vijay or that he is collaborating with SRK for a Hindi remake of ‘Mersal’. Neither of the reports was confirmed although Atlee’s recent following of SRK on Twitter increased the suspicion.
The CSK went to the top of the table with the win over the KKR on Tuesday and have 10 points from six games now. The defending champions next play Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Thursday. The KKR, on the other hand, take on Delhi Capitals at home on Friday.
Here are some of the reactions that the Twitterati came up with against the mocking of Atlee over his skin colour:
Myself being mostly dark, I feel bad for the trolls that #Atlee has to go through when he makes public appearances. #Priya should be proud that her hubby has reached a height that to sit besides #SRK is no less feat. pic.twitter.com/aDsAIm8OJ2

It's such a shame to see people troll Atlee Kumar for his skin complexion especially compared to Shah Rukh Khan in the last evening's match. Look at your face on the mirror first before you create such shitty memes…it would be as shitty as your memes and trolls…

Y’all making fun of Atlee’s skin colour well at least he got to sit beside SRK by his own hardwork. What have you achieved other than sitting at your home commenting about his skin colour? #Atlee #CSKvKKR

You may troll Atlee for his color and his films, but he always replies us only by giving Blockbuster hits. Look at the position that he is in now. Something to think about it and not laugh at it.#Thalapathy63 pic.twitter.com/NhQHaTx8av
