The fifth match of the Indian Premier League between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab saw one of the most controversial things that have ever happened in IPL history. The 13th over of the Royals’ innings, who were chasing 185 to win, saw Punjab captain Ravi Ashwin Mankad well-settled Jos Buttler, sending him back to the pavilion and changing the course of the game.

Buttler is known for taking liberties with the return crease at the non-striker end and Ashwin took advantage of it. The bowler ran him out as Buttler moved out of his crease, as the off-spinner was in his bowling stride. However, the controversial thing here was the bowler deliberately seemed to stall his bowling action to let Buttler move out of the crease and then ran him out.

The furore caused by Ashwin’s actions was huge on social media and former and present cricketers took to Twitter and criticized Ashwin’s actions. From Eoin Morgan to Michael Vaughan and Shane Warne, to even Danielle Wyatt, all called Ashwin’s deed dirty and his clarification for doing so ‘embarrassing’. Warne went on a rant on Ashwin and Pakistani player Kamran Akmal added to Ashwin’s misery.

Kamran Akmal asks Ashwin to learn from Sachin, Gavaskar, Ganguly and Dhoni

Out of favour Pakistani wicketkeeper, Kamran Akmal decided to butt his head into the controversy as well. He tweeted in reply to Shane Warne’s criticism of R Ashwin’s act of mankading Jos Buttler. Kamran decided to preach integrity to R Ashwin and asked him to learn from the great examples of the Indian cricket history, some of them who have played with Ashwin.

He tweeted, “its true legend…spirit & integrity of the game should not be demaged so very disrespectful act @ashwinravi99 you should learn how to respect your game examples are infront of you like The great @sachin_rt s.gavasker @msdhoni @SGanguly99”

However, his tweet didn’t go down well with the Indian fans who were furious with a Pakistani player preaching an Indian player how to play with the right spirit, given his own history, Akmal was an easy target.

Here are some of the replies Indian fans smashed at Akmal:
