The Mumbai Indians (MI) have put another scintillating performance in Hyderabad and are looking a team to beat now. They were dead and buried in the first innings until 18 overs were bowled but Kieron Pollard‘s blitz helped the visiting side. The bowling was just superb courtesy of the debutant Alzarri Joseph who took a six-wicket haul and returned with the figures of 6/12 to register the best figures in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The chase began on a brilliant note for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their openers took the attack to Jason Behrendorff and it seemed as if the game will end very quickly. But the chase of 137 looked extremely far after the duo of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner in the space of three balls. Rahul Chahar got the England cricketer while the Caribbean debutant sent back the latter to put extreme pressure on the middle-order of the home team.

They were tested for the first time and the likes of Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan couldn’t deliver for the team. Wickets kept on falling for the SRH and they were eventually bowled out for just 96 runs in the 18th over. Chahar and Joseph were brilliant with the ball while no one can forget Pollard’s contribution who helped the team get to the competitive total.

Pollard’s blitz helps MI finish strong

Earlier, Mumbai Indians completely struggled to score runs. The damp pitch didn’t help the visitors’ cause. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, the opening duo, played too many shots to their liking. The former was the first to be dismissed and none other than Mohammad Nabi was the man to strike. Siddarth Kaul then got better of the South African and Sandeep Sharma pinned Suryakumar Yadav in front of the stumps.

Literally, no batsman could get hold of the pitch and that led to Mumbai Indians struggling at 97/7 after 18 overs. But Kieron Pollard who was playing patiently until then got into his elements to reap as many as 39 runs in the last two overs which turned the game completely in the visitors’ favour.

Pollard remained unbeaten on 46 off just 26 where all the other batsmen struggled to score even run-a-ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul were the bowlers to be at the receiving end and the momentum changed from there on. The runs proved to be too much in the end as the home team lost the game by 40 runs.
