The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are back to the winning ways. After suffering three losses in the last three matches, they defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets while chasing the meagre total of 133 runs. The credit of the victory has to go to SRH’s bowlers who pulled things back superbly in the second half of the first innings. They choked CSK remarkably with their death bowling.

The chase began with David Warner going berserk in the powerplay overs. He took the attack to Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur when the ball was new and raced away to a 24-ball half-century. But Chahar got his wicket in the sixth over. However, by then, the damage was done. The required-rate was well in control and despite Kane Williamson being snaffled by Imran Tahir, there was no panic in the SRH camp.

Jonny Bairstow and Vijay Shankar played patiently on a slow wicket. But the latter was snaffled by Imran Tahir to complete another round of the stadium in celebration. But Bairstow was determined on the day as he took calculative risks and finished the game fittingly with a huge six. He remained unbeaten on 61 off 44 deliveries with three fours and as many sixes.

SRH come back well to restrict CSK

Earlier, CSK’s opening duo Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson got the team off to a brilliant start. They played cautiously early on with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed using their variations nicely. But Shahbaz Nadeem was attacked by the opposition as the left-arm spinner went for 33 runs in his four overs. Du Plessis changed gears at the right time.

Even Watson smacked Rashid Khan for a boundary in this very first over. But after the first strategic time-out, things started to change. Nadeem castled Watson even as Vijay Shankar celebrated his World Cup squad selection with Du Plessis’ wicket. The middle-order never got going for CSK. Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu completely struggled to force the pace in the death overs.

Eventually, they finished on just 132 runs for the loss of five wickets after 20 overs on a slow pitch. The score proved to be meagre in the end thanks to a quick blitz from Warner and then the innings was carried on superbly by Bairstow. CSK missed MS Dhoni throughout the game and the team missed him badly.
