It’s been a few years now since the Delhi franchise has performed so well in the IPL. The Delhi Capitals (DC) have won a hat-trick of away games now and will be a confident unit as they head back home for their next encounter. They will be up against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming battle – the same team they defeated by 37 runs in their first game this season.

The home team will look to see the momentum carried forward. They seem to have found the right balance now and thus the results are quite evident. However, there are one or two spots in the team that still remain flexible. Depending on the conditions, they might look to make changes if required.

Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Delhi Capitals (DC):

Openers (Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw)

The biggest weak link in the DC line-up has to be the openers. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw has hardly been anywhere close to consistent. They have brought out one good performance each in the tournament when both of them got into the nineties. However, there hasn’t been anything substantial from this pair apart from those two knocks.

Any team would want the openers to provide the team with a good start. However, the duo hasn’t been able to do that. While Shaw is trying to hit every ball for a boundary, his partner has been very indecisive about his shots. Thus, it has been quite a headache for the management and they will hope that these two get better as we are already approaching the business end of the tournament.

Middle Order (Colin Munro, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk))

Colin Munro had to wait for a long time to get his opportunity in the tournament. The New Zealand cricketer finally got a chance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as Colin Ingram flew back to South Africa. In his first game of the season itself, Munro was highly impressive. The left-hander scored 40 runs from 24 balls. Although not a massive contribution, it was critical in the context of the game.

Shreyas Iyer also played a similar knock. He is someone who analyses the pitch conditions real quick. Iyer exactly knows if he has to play an aggressive or a radical knock which has been highly impressive. The skipper scored 45 runs from 40 runs which turned out to be the difference at the end. There is nothing to write about Rishabh Pant as long as he keeps throwing his wicket away. This approach will take him nowhere and he’s got to be a little more sensible. His best knock of the season came against MI and he’d want to repeat the heroics.

All Rounders (Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Keemo Paul)

Chris Morris has been impressive with the ball than with the bat in this tournament. The South African bowled three overs in the last match and picked up three wickets. However, he has had troubles facing Rashid Khan and could only score 4 runs with the bat.

Axar Patel and Keemo Paul have been doing a fair job for DC with the bat down the order. They don’t get to face many balls but have done well in whatever chance they got. Axar was expensive with the ball in the last game but could hold on to his spot. Keemo Paul was brilliant with a three-wicket haul in the last match.

Bowlers (Rahul Tewatia, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma)

Rahul Tewatia is likely to walk back into the DC eleven in place of Amit Mishra. The leg-spinner can bat a bit as well and can be promoted up the batting order if required. After the game in Hyderabad, head coach Ricky Ponting hinted about the inclusion of Tewatia into the eleven. He is dangerous when he extracts turn and bounce off the pitch.

Kagiso Rabada has made DC’s death bowling fierce. The South African pacer is nailing the yorkers and is executing the slower balls well. He picked up four wickets in the previous encounter including that of the dangerous David Warner. Ishant Sharma, meanwhile, has provided the side with good starts in the powerplay.
