The Kings XI Punjab’s dominance against the Delhi Capitals finally came to an end as the Shreyas Iyer-led team has finally managed to beat them for the first time in two years. Iyer’s clinical unbeaten effort of 58 from 49 balls ensured his team did not collapse as they did in their previous meeting. Shikhar Dhawan continued his batting form with a 41-ball 56. Chris Gayle threatened the hosts with a destructive 37-ball 69 before his innings was cut short by a Colin Ingram special at the boundary.

Here are the lesser known stats recorded during Delhi Capitals’ first win against Kings XI Punjab in 2 years:

The King of Kotla:

Chris Gayle has batted on seven occasions in the IPL at the Feroz Shah Kotla scoring 367 runs at an average of 73.4 and has struck 28 maximums. These are the 2nd most number of sixes hit by any player against the home team at a venue in the IPL.

Gayle himself hit 32 sixes against KKR at the Eden Gardens in eight innings; also at an average of four sixes per innings. Gayle’s 367 runs at this venue in the IPL are the 2nd most behind Virat Kohli’s 405 runs against the home franchise.

Yet another 300+ season for Dhawan:

Shikhar Dhawan has scored at least 300 runs in ten different editions of the IPL including nine in a row since 2011. He failed to touch the 300-mark in an IPL season only in 2009 and 2010 while playing for the Mumbai Indians.

Suresh Raina (11), Virat Kohli (10) and Rohit Sharma (10) are the other three players to have ten different seasons with an aggregate of 300+ in the IPL. Raina and Rohit are yet to touch that mark in 2019.

Expensive, yet effective:

Sandeep Lamichhane picked up the crucial wickets of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Sam Curran for the home team. However, he conceded 40 runs in his four overs while picking up those three wickets. This is the 4th most expensive 3-wicket haul in the IPL for the Delhi Capitals/Daredevils.

Morne Morkel took 3/50 in his four against PWI in 2012 while Carlos Brathwaite had figures of 3/47 in 2016 against KKR; both at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Imran Tahir took three at the cost of 43 runs in 2015 also against KXIP in Pune.
