Twice in two games the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling and their opening pair came together to record two big victories at home. After three consecutive defeats over a period of nine days, SRH first defeated CSK with 37 balls to spare and this time it was KKR’s turn. The Warner-Bairstow partnership produced another explosive performance at the top as SRH completed a chase of 160 with five overs and nine wickets to spare.
Here are the lesser known stats from KKR’s 5th consecutive defeat of this IPL season:
Double hat-trick for Warner:
David Warner came into the game with fifties in each of his previous three matches and added one more to his tally. Thus, he became only the 3rd player from Australia to score fifty-plus scores in four consecutive innings in the Twenty20 format.
Michael Klinger in the 2015 T20 blast for Gloucestershire and Usman Khawaja for the Sydney Thunder in the 2016 Big Bash League had fifty-plus scores in four consecutive matches.
Warner continues his consistency:
Warner has scored 500 and more runs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in all IPL seasons except for 2014 where he made his debut. The Australian touched the 500-run mark in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and now in 2019. He is the 2nd player after Virat Kohli to aggregate 500 runs in five different IPL seasons but the only one to do it in five consecutive seasons played.
Lynn Sanity slows down:
Chris Lynn brought up his fifty off 45 balls and departed for a 47-ball 51 which came at a strike-rate of 108.5. None of Lynn’s previous 30 fifty-plus scores needed more deliveries or were scored at a lower S/R than this game.
During a successful chase against RCB in 2018, Lynn remained unbeaten on 62 off 52 where his S/R was 119.23. Lynn had a S/R over 125 in the remaining 29 fifty-plus scores in this format. The fifty vs RCB in 2018 is also the previous slowest T20 fifty for Lynn as he needed 42 balls for the milestone.
Hat-trick with the bat for Narine against SRH:
Sunil Narine has scored 25 or more runs in each of his previous three innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. An interesting aspect around this is that Narine has scored runs with a 200+ strike-rate in all the three innings.
He scored a 13-ball 26 in the league phase game in Hyderabad and a 10-ball 29 in the Qualifier game during the previous edition. Chris Gayle (2) is the only other player to score 25+ runs with a 200+ S/R in an IPL inning on two different instances against SRH.
