The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have more or less confirmed their top two finish as they regained the top spot post their 80-run win against the Delhi Capitals. After a slow start, Suresh Raina’s 37-ball 59 guided the hosts towards a respectable total. MS Dhoni finished off with an unbeaten 22-ball 44 to power his side to 179/4. The visiting team raced to 50-run mark in 5.1 overs before their batsmen followed one another to the pavilion and were bowled out for only 99.

Chennai trump Delhi yet again:

6 – The Chennai Super Kings now have defeated the Delhi Capitals/Daredevils in six consecutive matches in the IPL at the Chepauk. The Delhi franchise won their first two appearances at this venue in 2008 and 2010 respectively but lost all they played since 2011.


80 – The 80-run win in this game is CSK’s 6th biggest victory in the IPL in terms of runs. Four of those six biggest IPL victories while defending have been recorded against the Delhi franchise only.


Dhoni equals Rohit:

17 – Number of player of the match awards in the IPL for MS Dhoni; the joint-most for any Indian alongside Rohit Sharma. Overall, only Chris Gayle (21) and AB de Villiers (20) have received more POTM awards in the IPL than Dhoni.


A game of milestones for Raina:

100Suresh Raina became the first player in the history of the IPL to claim 100 catches. He completed the milestone with the catch of Prithvi Shaw in the first over of Delhi Capitals’ innings. Raina spent nine matches without taking a catch between his 99th and 100th; the most he played in a succession without taking a catch in the IPL.


50 – The 59-run knock from Raina in this game is his 50th fifty-plus score in the Twenty20 format. He is now the 5th player from India to have fifty half-centuries in the shortest format.


Tahir levels Afridi:

11 – Imran Tahir now has claimed 11 four-wicket hauls in the Twenty20 cricket; the joint-most by any leg-spinner alongside Shahid Afridi. Overall, the 11 4-fers are the joint 4th most for any player in the T20s. Only Lasith Malinga (14), Shakib Al Hasan (12) and Sunil Narine (12) have more 4-fers in T20s than Tahir. Umar Gul and Dwayne Bravo also claimed 11 four-wicket hauls in this format.


Raina’s 12/12 feat:

1 – With help of the 59-run knock, Suresh Raina completed 300 runs in this IPL. He is the only player to reach 300-run mark in all the 12 editions of the IPL. Rohit Sharma is the closest one having scored 300+ runs in all seasons except in the 2018 edition.
