The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans are desperate to see their team winning their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title. They endured two disappointing seasons after making the finals in 2016 and this year, too, they started off on a poor note by getting bowled out for 70 runs against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

RCB will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday and they would be looking to quickly return to the winning ways and not join yet another catching-up game. Statistics though favour the MI who have a 16-9 lead over the RCB head-to-head in the IPL and have won five of their last six encounters.

Johnson takes a sly dig

As a captain, Virat Kohli could come under some serious questioning if he fails to lead the RCB successfully this year – his seventh straight season as the skipper. Former India opener and two-time IPL-winning captain Gautam Gambhir has already fuelled the debate saying Kohli is lucky enough to continue with the RCB captaincy despite not being successful. Now, the former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson has also taken a sly dig at Kohli, his old foe, saying that the RCB could win the tournament this year “if they got rid of their captain”.

The 37-year-old former left-arm seamer, on Insta AMA, said this when asked about the RCB’s chances of winning the tournament this year. Johnson was more direct in his digs at Kohli during India’s last tour of Australia and particularly during the

Test series. The two players had their share of confrontation Down Under in the past and it seems the former Aussie cricketer is not ready to let go any chance to take a potshot at Kohli, even if in the garb of a joke.
