Even though Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have done well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, one of their key members Kedar Jadhav hasn’t been eye-catching. The key middle-order batsman has gathered only 162 runs in 12 matches at an average of only around 20 and strike-rate of less than 100, much below than his career figure of 131.46. Jadhav has been picked in India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup and his low form will be a concern for Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri ahead of the big occasion.

Former India cricketer Rohan Gavaskar, son of the legendary Sunil, pointed out Jadhav’s ordinary run with the bat this IPL and suggested that he needed more runs after his name to boost his confidence ahead of the WC. Jadhav, 34, is known to be a key batsman who comes down the batting order and also bowls handy off-breaks. India will be requiring the batsman in tight games but only when he scores some runs.

“Kedar Jadhav is so, so, so crucial for the Indian team. He plays a role that no one else can… finisher’s role and chips in with his bowling and he seems to be woefully out of form,” Rohan was quoted as saying by CricketNext.

Jadhav needs time to settle and score, feels Rohan

The former cricketer advised to send Jadhav at No.3 if the CSK qualified for the playoffs which they did. He said that would give Jadhav more time to settle and play his shots and regain the confidence ahead of the World Cup. Jadhav has played 59 ODIs so far, scoring 1,174 runs and taking 27 wickets. He has been an asset for India down the order who can keep his composure at crucial junctures of games.

CSK coach Stephen Fleming though feels that it is not entirely right to assess a player’s form by the IPL for it’s tough to judge a player’s rhythm in T20s. “In these conditions, it is hard to gauge if you are in form or not. You don’t know how the track is going to play,” Fleming was quoted as saying.
