IPL 2019: Seven arrested at Eden Gardens for betting during KKR vs RCB match
Amidst the action-packed game between the two teams, the cops caught a group of individuals for betting in the stadium.
Cricket and betting go hand in hand in India and when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL), it has always been surrounded by such activities. Even the ongoing 12th season has been surrounded by constant news of betting and other such activities. The cops have been actively working on keeping it under check and recently arrested a group of individuals from the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for being involved in such acts.
The Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match was one of the most entertaining contests when it comes to sheer six-hitting exploits. It had everything, from a century from Virat Kohli, his fifth in the tournament history, to a whirlwind 66 in 28 balls from Moeen Ali, which took the RCB team to a formidable 213 runs.
KKR’s response started on a bad note, with the top four batsmen falling for low scores, and eating up deliveries, which came back to haunt them in the end. Then Nitish Rana (85*) and Andre Russell went berserk at the RCB bowlers bringing down the equation to 24 runs in the last over and fell short by just 10 runs.
Betting racket busted by Kolkata police
While the two teams were fighting it out in a high-scoring thriller, there were those with malicious intentions also present in the stands of the Eden Gardens. The cops were alert and nabbed them from the 60,000 odd fans present at the stadium on Friday night.
A team of Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) and Detective Department (DD) arrested a group of seven persons from F1 Block at Eden Gardens for their involvement in cricket betting, the police said. These people were placing bets on the match between Bangalore and Kolkata. 14 mobile phones and one betting accessory was also seized from their possessions.
“The group was nabbed on Friday after the ARS and DD received information from a source regarding betting at Eden Gardens for VIVO Indian Premier League cricket match, which was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB),” police said.
