Kolkata Knight Riders, on Friday, once again proved their title credentials by blowing away Royal Challengers Bangalore. Not many would have given the two-time champions a chance to walk away from Bangalore with two points after the home side put up a massive total of 205 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were in their elements, scoring 84 and 63 respectively to put their team on the verge of its first win of the season.

As the game wore on, the Royal Challengers put themselves in the driver’s seat. After a boundary-filled start, the Knight Riders failed to keep up the momentum. They seemed to have lost their way once Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa departed in quick succession. And by the time the 17th over ended, it looked all over for the visitors. On the final ball of that over, Dinesh Karthik had to depart, leaving his team in a precarious situation of 153 for 5.

With an improbable 53 runs needed from just 18 balls, it looked all over for the Knight Riders. But 13 balls later, it was Knight Riders who were celebrating at the Chinnaswamy Stadium after registering a sensational 5-wicket win. And the architect of the win was a familiar face – Andre Russell – Knight Riders’ saviour this season. In four games so far, the allrounder has played three match-winning knocks including the one against Royal Challengers. He faced just 13 deliveries but ended up hitting 7 sixes and one four to fire the Knight Riders to their third win of the season.

Shah Rukh Khan delighted

Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the Knight Riders, was a happy man for the obvious reasons. And he did not take much time in taking to Twitter to praise his players. He heaped praise on the likes of Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa but saved his best for the man of the moment Andre Russell.

“Well played boys @KKRiders @lynny50 @NitishRana_27 @robbieuthappa. Each one in the team did so well but you all will agree all words of praise r worth less than this picture…,” wrote Shah Rukh Khan.
