The world witnessed the battle of two prominent figures of Indian cricket– MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli– in Match 25 of the on-going IPL 2020. Chennai Super Kings, currently dealing with woeful form, locked horns with an equipped Royal Challengers Bangalore side at Dubai International Stadium.

All eyes were on Dhoni to get back to winning ways but it was Kohli’s men who stamped their authority over the Yellow Army. RCB clinched the encounter by 37 runs and gathered two vital points under their belt.

After electing to bat first, RCB flagged off their expedition with the usual pair of Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch. However, they were struck with a major blow in the third over. Finch, batting on 2, was shown the exit door by Deepak Chahar.

But after suffering the early blow Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Kohli steadied RCB’s ship. The duo stitched a 53-run stand to ensure that they don’t suffer a batting debacle. Both Padikkal and Kohli ticked the scoreboard with singles and doubles. Padikkal was eventually dismissed in the 11th over by Shardul Thakur. The pacer provided CSK with another scalp in the same over by plucking the wicket of ‘Mr 360’ AB de Villiers.

CSK failed to accelerate according to the asking run-rate

CSK dented Bangalore’s run-scoring spree with two major blows but skipper Kohli stuck in the middle until the end. Gradually accelerating his innings, the RCB skipper led his side from the front and smashed 52-ball 90. Kohli, flaunting his exemplary fitness, ran doubles for fun along with smashing boundaries all over the park.

He stitched his knock around 4 fours and 4 sixes as RCB managed to post a competitive 169-run total on the scoreboard. In reply, CSK, hoping to shrug off memories of their defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders, started their run-chase with the experienced duo of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis.

Things turned ugly for CSK after they lost both their openers within the Powerplay itself. Debutant N. Jagadeesan played a cautious 33-run knock but he had to head back to the dugout after getting run out in the 15th over. Succumbing to asking run-rate, CSK’s batting force shattered in the last five overs. No CSK batsman including skipper Dhoni was able to accelerate the run-flow. Dhoni managed to score just 10 off six deliveries.

Isuru Udana hit the final nail in the coffin by scalping the wicket of in-form Ambati Rayudu in the 18th over. It all boiled down to CSK needing 53 in the last two overs. However, the men in yellow jersey managed to post just 132 runs on the board, handing a victory to RCB by 37 runs. One of the most consistent IPL sides, CSK have registered just two wins in seven matches so far.
